[RC] shortbeds and goosenecks - oddfarm

Reading all the posts about breaking the back window glass and sorts really has me confused.

We just bought a 34 ft long, 8x8 trailer. (What the hell was I thinking??) I can almost stand up strait in the nose which is also 8 ft. wide. We are pulling it with a short bed 2002 Chevy heavy duty duramax. John had to make a very, very tight turn to get it out of our driveway and the nose never even came close to the window. I pulled it up to Big South Fork and made a few tricky turns myself. (some I had help with)  How sharp do you have to turn a  gooseneck trailer to tear up your truck? I am thinking it is impossible to turn it that tight, just because of the length alone. Even 24 ft is pretty darn long. If I tear up "the truck", I am in deep doo-doo.

By the way, the truck had no problems towing in the mountains. Love that transmission. Going down that 13% grade was a piece of cake, didn't even have to ride the brakes. Tapped them once, and it downshifted all by itself to almost a crawl. I can't say how the truck works technically, but I got excellent diesel mileage while in tow/haul mode.

It is a lean, mean, pulling machine.
