My friend and I are taking two of her horses to their first (and our first) ctr and their regular job is "trail horse." Quite similar I guess, except that on the trail rides they follow a specific trail at the walk. I am one of the trail guides and my friend is the owner. People come to rent horses for one hour trail rides through the fields and forest and I go out with them as the "leader". The two horses we are taking to the ride though are a little too hyper and sensitive to be rented out (since most people have never ridden or have ridden very little) so only the trail guides ride them. They have to behave and do what we ask of them. If we need to stop on the trail and dismount, then we have to be able to rely on them to stand still and be able to get back on easily. Just recently we took a large group out for a two hour trail and picnic, and these two horses were just great. While we ate lunch, they happily munched some hay while standing tied to some pine trees. It was very cool. And the two we are taking to the CTR w ere the least sweaty of the 12 horses since they are in the best shape. Can't wait until the 29th when we will be going down the trail competitively.
