    Vicki,

You have me in tears here at work. ****hugs****
Loosing any animal is heartbreaking. I don't want to
imagine having a horse go down under me like that.
And all you'd done for him and with him made it even
    worse.

The horses dying during/after the WEG is tragic. But,
while I have no urges to ride as fast as these riders
were going, I still want to believe that they're in
this sport because they love and respect horses. If
not, why pick endurance? Do something else if it's
just about winning. My heart goes out to those riders
and the owners of those horses that died. I'm sure
they're hurting just like any of us would be in a
similiar situation. (And naive is not something many
    would call me.)

As an aside, my father almost died of an aneurism
(brain) as well. In his case, he showed signs and was
misdiagnosed by his doctor and sent home as having the
"flu." Luckily, a trip to the emergency room later
that night discovered the aneurism prior to it
bursting & surgery saved him, although he did suffer
several small strokes as a result. Today he's alive
    and grumpy as ever.
