The University of FL is keeping a lot of statistics and performing a study on WN (along with trying to figure out how the hell they are going to beat UT this weekend after their beloved coach jumped ship). They have had more experience with it than anyone. Unfortunately we got a one year head start on the rest of you down here down in the land where our election officials haven't figured out how to open polls, turn on computers or count votes.. I am sure the paper will be forthcoming (on WN not on how to run an election). UF is pegging the vaccine at 70% -75% effective.

I asked my vet when he was out to treat my guy about the booster somehow causing the horse to get WN (as was posted earlier). He looked at me like I was crazy and said no. It's probably that the vaccine is just is not that good yet. If you have had the vaccine don't be lulled into thinking they are completely safe. Stay vigilant to the signs.

    Hi

We are on the north west edge of MN. south of Moorhead Mn in what is called the Red River Valley.

Our vet is treating 2-3 new cases a day until yesterday when at 2:00 ours was the first case.   We have mosquitoes thick in the Red River Valley and on our place haven't seen a bird for weeks.  Our horses are in before the mosquitoes are out for the night and stay in until well after sunrise.

I have been wondering  if there has been anyone keeping track on whether there is a breed or combination of breeds that seem to have a higher survival rate than others?
