    [RC] WEG - Dolores Arste

    >From the WEG site:
I guess it was a sheikling Howard ;)

MAKTOUM Gold medallist, ROSI Silver medallist and DEMEDY bronze.

Sixteen year-old Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohd AL MAKTOUM (UAE) riding BOWMAN became
the first man ever to win the Endurance World Championships Monday. 16.
September, beating Antonio ROSI (ITA) by a clear margin.

The real battle was for third and fourth with a race to the line, between
Sunny DEMEDY (FRA) and Margaret WADE (AUS), but it was French DEMEDY who was
    to prove victorious.

The 160km trail is split up into five stages, the last being the shortest at
19.3km and the real race for the line. It is at this stage that the riders
find out how much ?petrol they have left in the tank?. This is the skill of
Endurance riding learning to listen to your horse and pace it energy level
over the length of the marathon and picking the best possible route.

As the Endurance riders set off at the crack of dawn they were equipped with
torches secured to their helmets. They knew that it was going to be dark.
What no one had anticipated was the sight of lightening and the accompanying
    downpour of rain.

Having trained and prepared for the Championships expecting firm going and
hot weather conditions, many teams were caught on the hop this morning by
the sudden change in weather conditions. Heavy rain continued in short
bursts for most of the day turning the once dusty trail to a watery bog. The
conditions were to prove influential as the mud pulled off many shoes, and
the slippery going caused knocks and injuries.
