The way I read this post was this horse was an endurance horse that had been laid up for almost two years because the owner was in vet school without the time. The way I read it this horse did have a base-most likely a very good on. This base is there and just has to be tuned up not built from scratch. The lady brought him back nice and slow and did a slow ride on him. This should have not have stressed the horse. There is a big difference with an 11 year old horse coming off a layoff and a 5 yo just starting the sport.

That may be true, but it wasn't mentioned in the post. I'm worried about the tons of newbies who read this list for training tips will think they can go get any horse that has sat in a pasture for two years and make a 50 mile horse out of them in three months or 12 rides. Lots of people follow the RC bible, and a post like that without qualifiers is IMO scary to the newbies who read this list.
That's all. Took my potato mare out for a nice training ride today. Going to take a heck of a lot more than 12 rides for her to be ready for a 25 even.
