Re: [RC] WNV treatment? - Truman Prevatt

It depends on the symptoms. It's supportive therapy -- DMSO and antiinflammatories untils the horse gets over it. Ego was not bad so the DMSO was not needed (thank goodness). Ego's treatment is for 10 days with the amount of antiinflammatory drugs tappering off toward the end.

He is also to be kept out of a herd situtation during this time to keep him from getting hurt since his coordination is not the best. ?I would expect we could start him back with some light work after the treatment is over. I sure hope so, he's getting fat.

Truman, can you also tell the treatment program, what exactly are you doing and for how long?? I'd guess that since he'd had vaccinations the treatment program is shorter and less costly and the outcome is more positive.? Any idea how long before the horse is able to go back to work?? thanks.?
