I think that pretty much sums it up ... it's a vanity issue.  We
Americans have been conditioned so much to "bigger is better," and the
Hollywood image of a tall man on a big horse.

My ex-husband use to ride my 14 hand gelding all the time, he was 6.4. He use to ride my mom's 14.3 mare in parades in Downtown Dallas all the time and they made a very good looking pair. I had someone ask me recently if a 14.2 hand horse was too small for her, she being 5.5. I emailed a picture of me who is 5.6 on my 14 hand gelding (we competes in 50s) and asked her if I looked too big for this horse. She was so impressed how well we looked together she bought the 14.2 hand horse she was look for. Too many people are telling others that they NEED tall. That is a load of crap. Best riding horses I have had were all 14 hands, they turned me on to this breed and I am a die-hard fan of Arabians. I had a man come out here and say he was too tall for a 14 hand Arab (he was a QH owner) so I put him on my 14 hand stallion and he rode for 10 minutes and with a huge grin on his face said "this is a Ferrari." He bought 3 of my horses, sent his son out to buy one and they now all own just Arabians. Don't knock it until you try it.
