[RC] spinal cord? - LOUISE D BURTON
Billiejean and whoever else may be interested,
Your horse has some characteristics of what my stallion used to do. He had
a very hard time going down hill, and he got to the point of tripping, but
only on slight downhills. When he fell badly with me, and my vet said to
never put my kids on him, I was broken hearted. No one could figure out
what was wrong with him. Perfect chiro wise. It turns out it was his
HOCKS. We injected them with HA and put him on a maintenance of CS and MSM
and he was WELL! (BTW IM Adquan did not help at all) We went on to finish
his career of 3500 miles and he died last year at age 18 from a mare kick.
One of the ways you can check is lunge him in a circle and carefully watch
his hocks. Do they flex? Compare with another horse. I never noticed the
non flexion on this horse until he got better, and what a difference! The
wide behind thing could be an adaptation to not being able to flex the
hocks.
The not wanting to go downhill and the tripping on slight declines is very
indicative of hock problems.
Hope this helps!
