Re: [RC] Algae in water tanks - Steven Proe

Hi: I put the snails in the spring that's it. If I get a accumulation of
debris in the trough I reach in and remove it by hand. The pasture that I
have is about 5 acres of irrigated pasture. This may make a difference with
other peoples tank and I have a year round creek with ponds also. It is rare
that I have to drain the tank totally. When I do, I just put the snails back
in, I fill the tank with irrigation water.

    | But how often do you actually dump your tanks? I like to dump the old
    dirty
    | water out and put fresh in every 3 days or so. My horses can really dirty
    a
    | tank of water fast and do prefer the fresh water. I remember using snails
    in
    | our fish aquariums as a kid. If you dump a tank do you have to remove them
    | and aclimate them to the new water gradually like you do fish?

    | Hi Folks: I use a couple of snails. In the winter they need to be
    protected
    | (fishbowl in side the house) from freezing or near freezing temps.
