I remember the first time I learned about sheath cleaning.  I was probably around 13 years old.  I was leasing a thoroughbred mare from my riding instructor.  I showed up at the barn during a sheath cleaning lesson.  I watched her getting the kids to stick there hand up "there".  I laughed and said to them, "ha ha, I have a mare, I don't have to do that!"  Guess what happened next.  Yeah, I had my arm up to the elbow in a horse sheath.  I have had geldings between that time and now so I did end up needing that lesson.
