[RC] Sheath cleaning - funny article and helpful tips - Ridecamp Guest

    Hi,

I have now posted to this board a grand total of *twice.* :) Every now and then, I am coaxed out of the Cave of Lurk.

There's a great (hilarious, actually) article on sheath cleaning at www.equusite.com. Click on 'Healthcare' and scroll down to 'Other Health Topics.'

The article, while very funny, doesn't really cover your question (you don't seem to have a problem with the basic issue of introducing "Mr. Hand" to "The Part"), but it does give some helpful tips on what to use, and how to get him to drop.

Such as: did you know that KY-Jelly is the only substance (other than water) that you can use and you don't have to worry too much about rinsing? I've tried plain water, and have found that since my gelding won't drop The Part, I need to use a slippery substance in order to get my hand waaaay up there. (Sounds like that's an issue for you, too.) Plus, the KY really softens the smegma so it's easier to peel off.

I don't know whether it would attract dirt. My assumption is that if you do the best you can to wash it off, this problem would be minimized.

    Good luck!
    -Sharon
