Dear Horse Friends and Military Folks,

There is a stable in San Diego - Miramar Stables - that is in real danger of
being shut down. It has served military families here for almost a century, and
is the closest-in horse facility for those families, who by necessity must live
on/near base. It is well managed, well maintained, and used to capacity. The
"next best things" (even if they *could* afford to pay the going rates, and even
if there *were* room for 150 new boarders) are private stables 30-60 minutes
    away, depending on traffic.

The Marine Corps is planning to close the stables to make way for an RV park and
storage facility, which will be more profitable, supposedly.

The location is under the flight path of MCAS Miramar, and between the airfield
and Interstate 15. The site has no scenic or recreationally redeeming
qualities - no lake, no hills, no beach, no views, no nice hiking trails...
Just a dirt lot between an airport and a freeway. Would you camp there, when in
every direction there are beaches, lakes, mountains, the desert...?

I know many people (military & their families) who have boarded there for
decades, and as you can imagine, their barn buddies are their second family.
How awful to lose that support network! Our military folks deserve better.

If you agree that the stables are worth keeping, please consider signing this
    petition:

I'll post the letter I wrote, too... Please feel free to forward this to anyone
    who might be interested.

    Thank you!
    Linda
