[RC] Mane care - Tamara Woodcock

One of my boys has a gorgeous mane. Full but not too thick, fairly fine haired, a nice shiny black, and well past the point of his shoulder. And this is without having to do any work on it. I wish his tail would grow like this, it goes just near fetlock when he's standing relaxed, hock level when he's moving. The problem is that his mane hair seems to grow in ringlets, and after a mere day or so, gets into a huge snarly mess. Even worse, if he manages to get plant matter tangled in it, it can take 45+ minutes to just brush out his mane. And I'm to picky to work him with the rats nest in place.

I've tried long braids before, and must not be doing them well, because I always have a lot of hair loss (hair being pulled out from the root) when I undo the braids. And sometimes, the braids themselves end up tangled and rolled into ringlets.

Suggestions, anyone? Any miracle product to help his mane?

I still might show him in-hand some more this year (I french braid his mane for that) and might ride him in a few pleasure classes (like the full mane for that). When/if he starts endurance, I'll do long braids to keep the trail from following us back to camp.

I'd like to keep this mane, but the ringlet snarls are killing me!
