I consider myself a risk taker just by getting on the horse! I always wear a helmet. I think I have forgotten once or twice but someone always says something at my barn if someone doesn't have one on...it's kind of an unwritten rule that if you want to board at this farm...you wear a helmet. We have gopher holes here to contend with so I am mostly afraid that the horse could trip with me on his back. But, I also figure, if something can happen...it will happen eventually...sliding down a hill on some loose rocks, tripping over something in the streams...or on the trail...missing his footing over a log...it's just common sense to wear a helmet.
