[RC] Helmets and risk tolerance - EBraznell

Seems to me that whether or not you wear a helmet has nothing to do with
riding ability. Some of the very best riders I know wear helmets, and some
of the very worst do not. That's their choice, and I don't applaud or
condemn them. I DO condemn the parents of young children that don't put
helmets on their kids! Young kids are not sophisticated enough to make a
    decision like that.

Whether a grown-up wears a helmet depends on how risk tolerant they are. I'm
a fairly good rider. Not the best, not the worst. But I don't have the
tolerance for risk that I did when I was younger, now that I'm a woman of a
certain (ahem) age. So, I wear a helmet. I vaccinated my horse for WNV. I
have collision insurance on my 1993 car (which is worth less than two years
    of insurance payments).
