[RC] sweet feed and "hot" horses - Dot Wiggins

No idea what the expert tests say,  but many years of horses tells me that any kind of grain fed in amounts more than needed for the work done often makes for excited and hyper horses,  especially iff they are stalled or in small pens.

More work and less high energy feed makes horses much easier to get along with.
In my experience corn will help a horse gain and hold weight under hard work.   Oats and barley will give more energy and drive, and  for many horses this means sillier and hotter.

Go back to just good hay, preferably grass of some kind, or decent pasture, and regular work (more than 20 minutes in the arena) and see if the horse isn't nicer pretty soon.
You can always start adding a little grain, plain, or any nice mixed rations if the work demands it, but as long as the horse is smooth and shiny and willing to go out, good green stuff is enough.

Never mind the expensive blood tests,  pay attention to the horse.
