Re: [RC] Body Protectors - Kristene Smuts

Here in South Africa it has become quite the norm for eventers to wear those protectors. They look like bullet proof vests - they also look very uncomfortable but I'm assured that once it takes on your shape, then they can be quite comfy. The back has a harder padding - sponge I think. The padding has holes in it to breathe so I would imagine that in the heat of summer, all you have to wear is your sports bra and vest .... Howard, that is for the wimmin, not the men, although, should you so wish, nobody can stop you wearing a sports bra under the vest ;-))

I believe it has magical properties as well. One of our more senior riders falls off and hurts himself very badly every year at our Nationals - last year he broke a few ribs, the year before his leg - but this year he wore one of those vests and never came off his horse! Magic? You be the judge ;-))

When my budget allows, I'll maybe invest in one of them - they're pretty dear at the moment, but I suppose it's the same argument as for a helmet - you get what you pay for.
