Ridecamp: Re: [RC] Helmets

Hi to all at ridecamp.
There seems to be much debate about helmets in the US. We have and still are
having debate on the subject  in Australia and I believe as of 1st January
2003 equine standard helmets will be mandatory.
Some states already have in place a "no helmet no ride" policy. It has
always been mandatory for junior riders to wear helmets in Aussie endurance.
My state (Tasmania) went compulsory June 2001.
I have been endurance riding for twelve years and have always ridden in a
helmet. I was one of the first to wear one and copped quite a ribbing from
my peers but a helmet has saved me on two occasions when my mount and I
parted company. The last occasion was only 200 metres from my front gate and
I landed head back onto a bitumen road
. Without the helmet I doubt I would be typing this Email.
