Mike Maul has the statistics that show Multi Day Rides are
    one of the two
    fastest
growing and most popular segments of endurance riding in
    AERC (LD is the
    other).
Three Day Rides are by definition Multi Day Rides and are
    given PIONEER
    RIDE status just
like any other Multi Day Ride. They, just like any other
    Multi Day Ride,
get the very same consideration and benefits as 4 and 5 day
    rides.
Entrants of 3 day rides get exactly the same point
    calculations and
benefits that entrants to 4 and 5 day rides get, which is
    different and
more than entrants get at any other sanctioned distance,
    since Multi Day
Rides are unique in and of themselves. That being the case,
    it seems only
right that they also should follow the same rules on
    sanctioning that
other Multi Day Rides follow. Also, a 3 day ride in excess
    of 150 miles
must be Special Sanctioned - Cow Tanks has been Special
    Sanctioned for
many years because it has always been more than 150 miles in
    3 days.

    Correct. Currently the rule reads:

11.2 Special event rides are series of rides on consecutive
    days,
    totaling
more than three days or 150 miles. Special Qualification
    rides are rides
with entry qualifications other than those contained in rule
    #3. Special
event and special qualification rides shall require approval
    of the AERC
Board of Directors for sanction for the first two years.

I've heard several reasons for wanting to change it to
    include 3-day (150
mile) rides as special events, including consistency between
    Pioneer
    points
and special event rides, but I am personally (my opinion
    only) not in
    favor
of the proposed rule change - for many other reasons. I'd
    leave it the
    way
    it is.
