RE: [RC] proposed changes in 3 day events sanctioning - Bob Morris

Remember this three day, 150 mile rule was made prior to the
Pioneer Award. It was used for the 150 mile rides that were
occasionally put on. These were not rides of 50 miles for
three days but straight 150 mile rides with 36 hours for
completion from the start of the clock. These were not
    Pioneer Rides.

One question arises; Do we shape the rules for the benefit
of the sport or do we shape the rules for the benefit of the
    awards?

For those who have not looked at the proposed motion on
    requiring 3 day
rides to have special sanctioning - if passed - it will
    provide better
coordination of rides across the country. Multidays draw on
    a larger
distance from the ride so that's one of the reasons.

But it will mean that the ride must be submitted 180 days
    before - not
just 120 days. - and be approved by the BoD the first 2
    years.

One solution proposed to this is that 3 day events would not
    get Pioneer
points - only events longer than 3 days. Special
    sanctioning(180 days)
then would only apply to 3+ days - but it would mean no
    Pioneer points
in the future for regular 3 day events.

Or perhaps those 3 day events that wanted Pioneer status
    would need
special sanctioning - and those that didn't - would not.
