Re: [RC] Virus - Howard Bramhall

This Klez thing got me.  I received a post, with an attachment, from Tom Ivers (it wasn't really from Tom) and I opened the darn thing.  After a long time, I realized something was up.  But, even though it never opened fully, the damage was done.

Luckily I didn't have to completely erase my hard drive (I have so many "valuable" stories on there; not backed up.  haha) but, it was a real pain in the butt.  This was the first virus I received that had someone's name I knew on the sender end. So, beware.  Reconfirm with the sender before you download anything.

There is a program called Klezfix out there on the Internet.  It's what finally got rid of my virus.  You do have to have a little knowledge of DOS to run the program.  Best advice is not to open anything, even if it has someone's address that you trust.  Sneaky virus; fooled me.

    cya,

Was the virus Klez?  Iv'e gotten a bunch, too,  but I've been told that the Kez is never from who it says it is.  It pulls the "from" address from caches and address books and other stuff residing on your own computer.  I thank Norton every day lately.

My Norton Anti-virus has detected at least three virus-laden posts on ridecamp, two of them from people whose e-mail address I recognize.  Thought I'd give a heads up.
