    [RC] Hunters bump(long and confusing!) - Budler,Cindy - Afrox

My Arab gelding has a ponted and sloped croup and also throws his right leg
out at the trot. When I had him vetted prior to purchase the vet was
completely confused by this motion- he does trot very wide at the back , but
the right leg seems to make a half circle in , round and out before it is
placed down. We looked at conformation and couldn't see any marked
difference in the right leg to the left, except a hairs breadth of a
difference in hock line (hip, hock, leg straight line). He did tell me that
he might not last in endurance because of this , but he is otherwise a very
nice horse and to give him a try.We have been training for a year- long slow
distance, done a few 30km and two 60km competitive rides- at slow speeds and
he has coped well, but in Feb this year we both fell, his movement seemed
worse after the fall(he is very uncomfortable at the trot - seems to twist
me about ), but nice and straight at canter. Had a chiro in who did some
adjustments and seemed no difference to me, altho' he did seem a tad more
comfortable. He also would not take right lead at canter, but will do it
now(training?). Anyway this weekend we attempted our first 80km- turned out
to be a killer of a course- not a flat bit in sight - huge hills up and
down. First leg went great, speed 11,6 km/h- good pulses, drank well, ate
well, walked ALL downhills with me leading. Second leg he just gave up on the
hills after 10 km's. He flat refused to even be lead down the hills. Wasn't
a happy horse to trot or canter- seemed sound though. After10 kms walking(me
leading) he would not even trot and had to be dragged. Metabolically no
problems- eating , drinking, urinating etc, but no way where we going down
anymore hills. Back legs where dragging toes down hills. I couldn't work out
if it was shoulder or hind leg, but we walked 15km before trailer could
fetch us. Vet said he looked very stiff but otherwise fine. We had withdrawn
ayway as i was at sthis atge very worried. He slept standing up for 3 hours
then ate, drank and dragged me around camp.Right hind muscle was sore to
touch , but after some homeopathic medicine and massaging with arnica he is
fine- right fetlock slightly swollen(looks like windgall)- but not stiff at
all this morning. Is this the right leg problem- is is fixable? Any ideas on
what to do will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
Cindy(the stiff one after climbing hills for 15kms :()
Seuntjie(means little boy) - not stiff, just never wants to see another
    downhill again!!!
