[RC] Alfalfa hay - Ridecamp Guest

    Debbie DeVita devitaphoto@xxxxxxxxx
We are having a hay shortage here where I live and our barn just got hay that is 50% alfalfa and 50% orchard and timothy I think. I am concerned about the 50% alfalfa and too much protein in the diet.

I am also afraid that my horse my get "high" on this hay. What are peoples feelings on this? Is it something I should worry about? I am feeding endurovent enger-G that is 10% protein, 10% fat and 5% fiber. A wonderful feed. My horse was thin the first 18 months I owned him, could not get and keep good weight on him, now he looks great and is keeping the wieght on wonderfull well.

If this is all the hay we can get, could I get some grass hay and feed it to him so many days prior to a ride? would that work?

If anyone would and/or could help me out I would appreciate it.

    Debbie
