Ridecamp: [RC] Sore back

I have a bob marshall endurance saddle and have the equilizer pad with it and on my last endurance ride my gelding got a sore on his back. This is not a new set up to him and before I noticed his fur balling up but not sores this time he got a sore anyone have any suggestions to prevent this from happening?
Also I have heard one horse was lost during the tevis this year is this true.  My heart goes out to the family if this happened.  Thanks Angela  mccorkle@xxxxxxxxxxx
