    [RC] feed - Cindi Hein

Another topic here on feed. I have a horse who in the spring was alot of fun to ride. Never really spooked at anything unless there was something truly to spook at. Trotted along just fine.
Well, now, he is jittery and spooks at everything and nothing. And acting like an idiot basically.
Talking with a friend of mine today while on a training ride - as to what I'm feeding him.
Besides his hay, he is getting Strategy about 4 lbs a day, quite a bit of beet pulp and his vitamins. A handful of Omelene just for taste.
He is on the thin side. Medically, he is fine and up to date on everything.
But, we're thinking with all the supplement feed and with the beet pulp having molasses in it - this could be making him crazy.
I know alot of people rave about beet pulp. I fed it to my now retired mare when she was in competition and she did fine on it. But, she wasn't getting the amounts that this horse is getting.
I'm pulling him off just about all the supplemental stuff. Give him his hay and a little bit of bran so he'll eat his vitamins.
For a couple of weeks til I get all this stuff out of his system.
All I had my mare on was hay, a small amount of bran, vitamins, a scoop (which measured about a cup) of cracked corn and same amount of oats.
Any ideas from you guys out there?
I started giving him all this stuff because he is thin. He wasn't low on energy - maybe it's genetic (body wise).
    Cindi
