Re: [RC] checking in before the ride - Howard Bramhall

My question to you is where on earth do you ride?  Every ride I go to check in is the day before the ride.  So is the pre ride vet check.  You check in on Friday, do the vet check before the ride on Friday, and the actual ride is very early (it's getting earlier each year) in the morning on Saturday.  Most places let you check in on Thursday as long as you give the RM a call, making sure it's OK.  Are you talking about endurance rides here or are you doing another sport?

If the ride is on a Sunday (there ain't many of those) then the check in is on Saturday.  If it's a two dayer I believe all the pre checks are done on the earliest day; for example if ride days are Saturday and Sunday than I think the pre-ride checks for both days are on Friday.  I'm not sure about this one, but that's my guess.  Of course, you can always get there late and, maybe, get a vet to do a special check for you.  No lines that way, but you might miss the start.

    cya,
Howard  (getting there early is good; then I can park where I want)

I have tried to look for this in the archives but have had no luck.
    Here's my Q.
What are the pros and cons of checking-in in the morning before the ride. Is it considered impolite or rude or inconvenient for RM and the vets?Is it bad for the horse?
I am new to the sport and have not found a buddy to go with and I end up camping alone the previous night. I only go to rides within 1 to 2 hours from home.So I can get to the ride early enough to check-in and saddle up and warm up.
    Thanks in advance
Sheila and Cassy(the paint horse that could!)
