[RC] Tevis 2002 - Ridecamp Guest

    Margy Brooks mbrooks@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Hi All!

I am most definately a lurker, but after reading some of the comments about this years Tevis and sportsmanship (or lack thereof)I wanted to put in my two cents!

My first-time experience at Tevis was not what I had anticipated. The biggest thing was that I didn't ride. I ended up having to pull my horse at Robie Park. Friday morning he walked out lame on a leg he had banged up on a training/exercise ride out of the Auburn Fairgrounds earlier in the week (go figure!). He wasn't bad, but not solid (you most definately need a solid horse out there!). I now think that it was a blessing in disguise. I was able to relax (if you can call it that!) and learn tons of things I wouldn't have if I had ridden. My family/crew and I took this opportunity to go to all the vet checks we could go to and watch all the goings on (my notepad is full!). Now we will be much more prepared for next year!

The other aspect I had hoped for at Tevis but didn't totally expect was the absolute friendliness, helpfullness, sportsmanship and comraderie I found with everyone I had the pleasure to meet. I was most graciously taken under the wings of many people who were obviously busy with their own Tevis preparations. I had help from folks with expertise in vet care, leg wrapping and icing, easy boot foam procedure (whew!), tips of the trail...the list goes on and on!

But, most importantly...even at this prestigious endurance ride called the Tevis, true horsemanship, sportsmanship, comraderie and the wellfare of our riding partners, the horse shines through. And we all had FUN! This is why we are involved in endurance riding isn't it?

Sylvia, Cindy, Todd, Pam, Jim, Craig, Alex, Kim thanks a million!

    See ya next year!

Margy and Spook (hey! i really didn't "spook" at the creek, i just didn't want my toes to get wet!)
