    I use the German Martingale that first wraps around the neck (thank to 
    Trialrite) the second straps attached to the breast collar, then there are 
    two pieces that pull through the bottom circles of the hackamore and then 
    attached to loops that are already sown onto the reigned about 12" about, if 
    that.  I usually attached the two pieces which come with the correct 
    attachments to the reigns at the highest loop.  This way the horse can relax 
    when it is behaving and, when it is not, the pulling back of the reigns will 
    tighten the martingale according bring the horses head down.
    
    I used to have a small problem with Mirage rearing.  Not any more.  He can't 
    lift his head up that high.
    
    It's a fabulous thing!!
    
    Just call Trailrite and ask them which German Martingale they supply.  You 
    will have to make some adjustments to it but just E-mail me and I will let
