Re: [RC] Moonlight in VT/Completion Awards - Linda Flemmer

My husband rode the OD 25 this year to introduce his
new horse to the activities & excitement of ridecamp &
the trail, vetting, etc. At the awards ceremony, tons
of time was spent on special awards for people
improtant to the club & the sport, the 100 mile ride &
its special awards, then a little less time spent
calling each 50 miler up for an award.

When the 25 milers were announced, they were "running
short on time". They asked everyone to remain seated
as the names (but not the horses) were called out.
Rather than clapping for each rider, they asked that
there be one unified CLAP for each name. They could
come up after the awards meeting to get a t shirt.
Mike would have rather skipped the shirt & had the
chance to stnad up & be recognized for bringing a new
horse into the sport. (Old gelding recently retired
    at age 20.)

I felt like I missed out meeting a lot of new people
who MIGHT come back in the future to ride more & maybe
farther. I felt like the people were slighted & the
horses ignored. Not to mention that the 25 milers
were riding the Old Dominion Hunter Pace, not a 25 LD.
     (A whole 'nuther story.)

So, a long way of saying, me too! Recognize the folks
by name & face. Hand out the awards in front of
    friends & family.
