Re: [RC] Endurance Awards - SandyDSA

I always loved the fact that endurance - unlike showing - rewards the completion of the journey instead of (at best) winning a class) or (at worst) rewarding the trainer who happened to be on one's HORSE. An endurance horse at any level has got to be physically superior to any show horse - having been in both "arenas" so to speak, there is no doubt in my mind that this is so. What is incredible to ME is that so many people MUST be doing this for the glory of the sport, because most of us have PLENTY of tee shirts. But I wear my shirts with pride, and each one carries special memories of different horses and experiences. While we do show our stallion - and WILL show the new guy coming in - for their own promotion, we take special pride in seeing one of Sal's get do something really challenging - and it isn't western pleasure! I am not at all disappointed that Sal - and Harlot and JJ - have been successful in the show rin g as well, but the rewards are different. I don't get paid a ton in my job - but when people ask why I do it for such a small pay, I tell them I get paid in hugs and kisses - from all the kids who get to singl the average guy who gets to sing; the guitarist who gets to play drums - and my partner and boss who is especially rewarding in all he says and does. I guess it all depends on your definition of reward.
