[RC] Oak Leaf Run - 7/20/02 - FancyNite

    Hope this finds everyone well.
If you missed Oak Leaf Run, you missed a great time and a wonderful ride.

Saturday morning the weather was nice.. But the heat took over in the afternoon.  The trails were WONDERFULLY marked.  They had very nice people along the trail setting up and filling water for us all day... Yea haw.  It was VERY MUCH appreciated.

And the awards were A LOT of fun... They gave out "Hard Luck," "Oldest Horse," "Oldest Rider" and even "Top Crew" awards, and still more awards.  Bonnie Tobias made everyone feel like they WON something.  It was a lot of fun.  And lots of laughs.  They gave out another award (sorry, can't remember what they called it) that the Vet Staff judged... They said it was because this guy CONSTANTLY made them laugh and gave them a hard time... And if you all can just imagine who that might of been... Well if you guessed that Whacky man "Mike Caudill", pat yourself on the back... <g>  If you know Mike, you NEVER forget him. :0)

The Hard Luck award went to "Mike Ross" (my mothers crew), when Mom sent him to fetch some electrolytes, he went out to find my crew, because somehow the e-lytes wound up in my truck (still can't figure that one out).  Well, he proceeded.... WITH HER SADDLE IN THE BACK OF HER TRUCK...  (Kellie and I mentioned to Mike when we saw him out there, You had better “Put your foot down” getting that saddle back..) As she went to leave for another loop.... SHE HAD NO SADDLE, NO BIT, NO E-LYTES.... Our friends (Debbie & Dave Cook) loaned her a bit and a saddle... As she was leaving Mike pulled up... She exchanged saddles, and needles to say, gave Mike quite an EARFUL... LOL, guess Bonnie felt bad for him....and Mom. <g>

Oldest Rider went to Ted Klopfenstein.  Oldest Horse went to Jim Rogans horse, 22 yrs old I think he said... And Top Crew went to Ronnie Kinkaid. (Kellie, myself and Robert's crew... Yea haw...)  She gave out a lot of FUN awards.  And how often are the crews recognized?  She gave out little things for EVERYONE who crewed. WOW
If I didn't have a crew, I know the out come would have been different.

Linda Hamrick, myself, my hubby (Robert), Myra Fleming, Kellie Moore and Diane Meinders had a blast on the first loop... We were singing ... laughing hoopen’ and hollerin’ (how is that for hillbilly slang?).  Man we had fun.  Although I think Linda had TO MUCH fun laughing at me and Savage.  He seen some BIG BOOGIE MONSTERS out there.  (He's a power spooker..<g> )

Here is a list of the finishers I know of... (sorry, I don't know all the order or the names) 26 started, 22 finished. (60 miler)

    1.    Jinnifer Plummer (1st LW, 1st Half Arab)
    2.    Myra Fleming (1st Arab)
    3.    Kellie Moore (BC)
    4.    Linda Hamrick
    5.    Robert Plummer (1st HW)
    6.    Diane Meinders
         (not sure on placing below)
          Robin DeWit
          Jim Rawski
          Ted Klopfenstein
          Jim Rogan
          Connie Caudill
          Mike Caudill
          Julie Powell-Brokaw

Please don't anyone get mad at me for forgetting you. The brain cells were getting a little heat stroke by that time.  Congrats to all who finished. "To Finish IS to Win," No matter what the order of finish.

I am SO PROUD of my guy Savage. He continues to amaze me.  He looked and acted very interested in what he was doing, looking forward to every turn and ate and drank everything in sight. He had nothing lower than an A- on his vet card and good CRI's.  I don't ever see us winning BC (but I love him all the same) unless I start riding with weights in my saddle... hmmm that's an idea.  And after that run off with Myra... ssshhheeww (took me longer to get my heart rate down, than it took to get his down) By golly this guy has secured his retirement home, when that day comes.

THANKS BONNIE.. And ALL her helpers.  (She managed to round up quite a few.)  Good job to all.  Sorry, I don't have any news on how Sunday went, had to leave early to get my son back to attend Boy Scout Camp.  (boy, it sure is quiet here at home. <g>)

Take care everyone and enjoy the trails with those great creatures.
