Re: [RC] youth/ drugs - Truman Prevatt

I heard a very interesting piece on NPR about "sports marketing" the other day. The prime audience for advertising seems to be the 18 to 34 age group. Males in this age group tend to watch sports more than any other age group. I don't think this is lost on the IOC.

Then a friend who follows wrestling and judo closely told me last night that there is a real possibility that wrestling will be removed as an Olympic sport to make way for new sports. It seems that the IOC has decided that there are too many sports already and if any new ones get in a current sport will have to go. So wrestling is going to make way for one of the "Xtreme sports" - you know skateboarding, etc., that you see on the Xtreme Games. That's right these are the sports of the 18 to 34 year old and they bring in big advertising dollars.

So the FEI may be reacting to the direction of IOC.

I think Mr. Young underestimates the selling/human
interest quotient of an "older" rider winning and beating
the "play pen" set. Guess he forgot how many of us "baby
boomers" of the 50's are still around (with many of "us"
kicking major butt in various sports endeavors <vbg>) !
