This kind of mindset saddens me to no end. Why "ask" them to follow the rules? First, forget that ASK part - a decent RM and individual simply DOES follow the rules because it is right and fair. Secondly, this thinking is what has turned people into selfish funseekers with no regard for the needs of anyone else. Of course, this attitude is not relegated to this sport, but I am saddened to see it here, where it is NOT rocket science, but it IS teaching a poor lesson in citizenship to others, including young people. This thinking degrades the decency and ethical behavior of many others. Why follow the rules? Because it levels the playing field as much as is reasonable; because it protects those who are freshly arrived in this sport - or any other; because it provides a baseline of performance and improvement for all; most importantly, because it is the right thing to do - a concept that is horrifyingly lacking these days.
