I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from. It sounds like you are
simply reaffirming what I said in my post. What you quote from me above was
written in the same vein as what you just said--that part of the sport is
not just riding, but also being included in everything that AERC is about.
That is precisely my point. LD riders are not second-class members--they
are full-fledged members who simply choose (for whatever reason) to ride
    lesser distances.

I can't even remember what stallion comment I made, and since you didn't
quote it here, I really can't address your question. I've ridden stallions
for the vast majority of my endurance miles, and since you are new, you
would have no way of knowing that I have a long history (predating this
forum considerably) of standing up for stallions who are well-behaved. I've
always done exactly with my stallions anything that anyone else does with
geldings or mares, so I can only say that you must have misinterpreted what
I said. If you'll tell me specifically to which of my comments you are
referring, I'd gladly answer you more specifically.

Certainly the intent of LD's to be introductory rides is a factor. However,
there are many people besides novices who ride them for many other
reasons--including physical infirmity, advanced age, coming back from a
hiatus in riding, taking their kids or spouses along for a family outing, or
just plain don't have time to get in shape to ride further. None of those
are "wrong" no matter what the original intent of LD's was.
