The people I know that use them, tack the horse up with the crupper and
then longe it until it stops bucking. Then they pay me $10.00 to ride it
downhill for the first time. Sometimes they jump a little, other times
we're contacting the nearest air traffic control tower and filing a
flight plan, and sometimes they just tuck their hind end under
themselves and sort of squat. Most of the time they don't react very
negatively at all. Longing seems to get them used to it enough to where
it doesn't bother them so bad when it starts holding the saddle in
place. At first I don't do anything too steep either.
