There is great horse camping in Yosemite.....you
can get info and reservations at "nps.gov" or call 800 436 7275 or call the park
at 209 372 4025.  There are 3 horse camps, one at Wawona (southwest portion
of park, near Big Trees, which has relatively gentle (for Yosemite) trails....
then there is the Valley, (right in the middle and near Bridal Veil Falls, El
Capitan, etc. and usually crowded with people)
and the trails are probably the most steep there,
black diamond caliber.....my favorite is Tuolumne Meadows, which is on the
eastern side of the park.....has great trails with lots of water crossings, HUGE
lakes, long continuous climbs (not as steep as the Valley) yet going up to
11,000 feet...and not many people once you get a couple (2)  miles out of
camp.  If you are coming from the eastern side of the Sierras, I would
strongly suggest Tuolumne, as it takes 3-4 hours to drive through the park, is
hard on your transmission, brakes,  the horses and you.  I'll be
there July 12-19........Happy Trails to you.   Jeannie

   Can anyone
recommend horsecamping in or around Yosemite?  If yes, in August. If yes
which trails do you recommend and do you know where we can stay.  We will
be headed to the  Eastern High Seira Classic.
