    Quoted from RC:
As far as the 'original intent' of LD rides, c'mon now, this isn't consitutional law here, where we have to always worry about the intent of the founding fathers, is it?

AERC is a legal entity and is subject to all kinds of law. So yes, we *do* have to worry about the intent of the founding fathers (and mothers) of AERC since it was that intent that created our bylaws. AERC is required to run itself according to the bylaws, the bylaws have to define what an LD actually is and then make sure all LDs are managed that way. IF the original intent was that an LD is a training ride and the bylaws support that, then *until the bylaws are changed* that's what an LD is - a training ride - and any LD sanctioned by AERC had better be run like a training ride. IF the bylaws are confused about what an LD is, then they had better be changed. And if the membership doesn't like what the bylaws say an LD is, then again, the bylaws should be changed. So that's why some of us are worrying about LDs.
