[RC] An Open Letter From Laura Toston - Ridecamp Guest

    Laura Toston malibulakerider@xxxxxxx

Recently there have been some unkind things said about my students and myself (all of which are not true). This is a continuation of a campaign that started last year after the 2001 Malibu 25/50.

I feel sad that I have to defend myself from statements that are untrue.
I know it sounds crazy that people would say all this stuff about my students and me if it weren't true, but believe me it is so crazy to me too.

My student's prize for winning the race is the sense of accomplishment they feel for all the hard work and training that led up to it.

The accusations made about us were not true. We did not cheat or cut trails during the ride. Why did someone say we did?

If you knew me and my students, you would know that we would never do any of the things these people have said we did.

Sandy Adams, did I do something to offend you? You have accused my students and me of kicking your daughter or knocking her off the trail in every race we have ever done together. In one area we were over six feet from you and you shouted, "Give us some room!" in such a mean voice. Why are you so mad? Why do you say all that stuff about us? Why do you and your friends write mean and untrue things about us?

If I have done something in the past that offended you, (I am so sorry.)
I can't imagine anything I would ever do that would offend you so much that you would want to ruin my students, and my whole world of riding.

I don't know you Kathy Z but I want to thank you so much for writing the following paragraph in a letter to RideCamp on Wed. June 19:

"Also I have to add about the rider with the juniors. As far as I could see, this woman was courteous, polite and patient at vet check #1.
Also her juniors seem to adore her. They hang all over her, touching her, hugging her. She's not much taller than they are. They seemed like a very nice, very together bunch. They were in no apparent hurry to leave vet check #1 that I could see. Just my observations....for whatever that's worth."

    This is who we are.

    Malibu Lake Riders,
    Laura Toston
