"Softball was created for those that were interested in baseball
but were not quite ready. Minor Leagues were created for those
that were interested in major leagues but were not quite ready.
I also want to point out that some, or maybe most, of the
players that start with one enjoy what they are doing and will
never go farther and that is truly there choice. I see nothing
wrong with that at all. "

My point EXACTLY! But ...they still score those games, now
don't they? And I don't follow either sport, but I'll venture
to guess they have awards as well, no? Does that in any way
diminish the significance of the World Series?

As far as the 'original intent' of LD rides, c'mon now, this
isn't consitutional law here, where we have to always worry
about the intent of the founding fathers, is it? How many
people were into the sport when the LD rules were written?
How many are there now? And, as Howard has pointed out, what
percentage of them ONLY ride LDs and what percent of the AERC
coffers have their entry fees and membership dues filled?

If you don't want to compete when you ride LDs then bully for you! But does that mean nobody else should be able to either?

I'm not saying LD mileage should count toward lifetime endurance
mileage: there can be two separate tracks, each with it's own
rankings. LD mailes apply to LD rankings, 'Endurance' miles apply to endurance rankings, etc. That way nobody could 'cheat' by racking up a bunch of LD miles and apply them to their lifetime 'endurance' mileage. What is the harm in that?

I agree with Howard - take away LD swards and fewer people will
enter the sport: and that doesn't bode well for the future if
    it.
