I was sitting at a bar having dinner this evening
and the TV above the bar showed a horse trailer accident with rescuers hauling a
gray (white) arab type horse out of a crumpled trailer. The horse was
very ataxic and proceeded to throw itself around including flippingover
backwards - it was awful. I actually choked on my mouthful of
salad.
The thing was, the horse had a big 106 on it's butt
and had it's mane braided in long plaits - like an endurance horse would.
The program was either on Discovery or Animal Planet and was different segments
of animal stories - it could have been old, and there was no audio from
where I sat. There were alot of people in the bar and the bartender turned the
channel as soon as people noticed the awful scene, so I didn't see it
all.
Does anyone know about this? was it an endurance
horse? was it ok? They usually do not show those things unless they have a
happy ending, but it looked terrible.
My husband is teaching a course to our local
Sheriff and State Troopers on how to safely remove an animal from a trailer
accident, and he felt that what he saw of the program showed exactly how NOT to
do it. The horse had no halter, there were people everywhere around it as
it flailed, and they continued to allow it to try to get up when
keeping it down may have been warranted.
Anyone know anything?
