Donna Stewart's mare Shanienatez started her career as a distance horse at
age 18 after a successful career as a broodmare. She consistently places
first in her division on CTR's and often gets Grand or Reserve overall. If
you aren't familiar with CTR scoring, basically it is a best condition with
50+ horses in the running for it.
And I think starting them older makes for a saner horse. They've already
been there, done that except for the miles, so there aren't too many
surprizes.
