[RC] Limited Distance - 'Again' - Jeanne Slominski

As the issue of LD seems to be on again:

LD is many things to different people. It can be used as a training ride. It can be used for bringing back a horse from an injury. It can be used because the rider doesn't feel up to doing a longer distance. Maybe the rider just doesn't want to do longer distances. It can be used because the horse isn't up to doing a longer distance, for any of a number of reasons. It can be used as the first ride of the season. I, personally, have used LD for all of the above reasons. I have top tenned and I have bottom tenned. I have 'baby-sat' riders new to endurance. I have 'baby-sat' riders with new horses.

Riders have gone too fast for their horses abilities in all distances. Why do some people think this is strictly a LD issue???? It is not! Riders can do any distance as their or their horse's first ride. No rule states other wise, nor should there be such a rule.

LD mileage stays in the LD program. Any LD BCs stays in the LD program. Neither are combined with 'endurance' mileage or points.

It is interesting that some Regions have no problem with giving placements and BC for LD, while other regions won't. Talk about inequities!
