I Agree - my mom   did too - she also taught me that I get to pay whatever consequence come up - and I DO INDEED firmly believe that adult eprsons have the choice to be just as idiotic as they choose - as long as it is at no one else's expense.  As my hubby says - "your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins". A more profound truth was never spoken. While I know some people feel that we have NO BUSINESS riding our stallion in public (bearing in mind of course that most of the people riding mares and gelding around here have more control and behavioral issues in a week than we do in ten eyars with our boy), we ride him with all common sense, quality tack (so as to prevent accidents) and indeed are fully insured as well. There are places we DON'T take him simply because the ability of others to manage thheir horses can compromise the otehrwise congenial mind of oru boy, thus causing a problem possibly (as in people who allow their horses to wander lose or to stroll at teh end of a 12 foot line - at will, wi th no real eye on them....)

Bottom line is that we DO have and appreciate the right to either wear a helmet or not - when we are supposedly thinking adults of legal age. OTOH, as an example to my daughters, I WILL ride with head protection. A beautiful song we played yesterday demonstrated to me how very important teh example we set is to the young sters - I want to be just like him because he wants to be just liek me - they imitate what their parents - and other revered adults - do. I want my daughters safe.
