 I think that if you are going to use any kind of  plastic or rubber shoe,
you are going to have to resign yourself to having them replaced every 4
weeks, especially if you plan to do endurance.  We have yet to get the new
Ground Control shoes but those we know who use them put new ones on every 4
weeks.  Someone pleasure riding or doing arena work might get longer use out
of them, I don't know.
As far as pregnancy checks go, we have had good luck with a blood test that
I cannot right now recall the name of....I think I got it from Valley Vet?
Pregna Mare?  Something like that.  It has been accurate so far for us.
Runs around $35 with shipping but you can do it yourself.  You poke the
mare's nose for a spot of blood and go from there...easy to do though at
first the instructions may look intimidating.  Good luck.
