    Angie...

I betcha I got more board fence on my 13 acres than most people do on
    100. IMHO, treated is far better. I use 5/4 deck boards (8ft) and 4x6
treated posts. Of course, treated 2x6 would be better, but more $$$$.

In another life, I used the oak stuff (rough cut true 1x6) It warps
badly and splits easily. The only way I would use oak is if you're
going to paint it with the asphalt paint. That seals it and it works
pretty well. If it's rough cut, you will have to spray it...too rough
for a brush. Plan to have a portable drill handy to pre-drill the nail
holes or you will either bend the nails or split the end of the boards.
    Oak is HARD!

I was by the Hay Barn over in Cumming, GA yesterday. Noticed they have
creosote (think like telephone poles) rough 1x6 and 4x4...you might look
into that. Good price and probably would last forever...no
painting...already black. They probably won't chew that, either. Price
    was good.
