[RC] horses that kick - Ridecamp Guest

I know there are horses that "LOOK" for someone to kick. The reason may be they are uncomfortable in groups, having a bad day, and just never been disciplined. I am a strong beleiver that ALL HORSES KICK and you should ride like that. My mare never has kicked or acted like she will but when asked if she kicks, I say yes. I was on a mare that -never- kicked and she kicked a guy right off his horse and broke his leg!!! The other people yelled at me about it because I didn't do anything about it. When the kick actually happened we in the front of this drunk guy, jumping over a small burm and her ran up and jumped almost on top of us. The mare that I was on just landed her front feet and BLAM!!! I didn't even feel it!! By the time I found out what happened, I believe it was to late to smack this horse. I do believe in immediate discipline. (If you don't know or just don't do it right away, don't bother.)But if you have a constant kicker and want to break it as much as you can, then immediate discipline is the only way to do it, that means even if the horse looks crooked at another horse, nail it! If all they do is a small crow hop, nail it! They start out small and get bigger. I have had a woman practically aim her horse at me and my mare, When I asked " does your horse kick?" she said "NO". Now you all know what happened after that!If you start out with an older kicker, ride with riders who arn't out to lunch. It could be the kicking horses owner who is at fault or the one getting kicked. Don't set yourself up to get hurt, and don't set your horse up to defend it's self, ride safe and aware, always.
