    It is best to grind whole flax seed before feeding, less likely to come out
    the same way it went in... whole. I grind it in a cheapo coffee grinder,
    takes about 10 seconds to grind 1/4 to 1/3 cup. I personally wouldn't
    consider cooking it as heat destroys the EFAs (along with some vitamins),
    which for me is one of the many great reasons to feed flax seed.
