    The reason that sanctioning for the Great Norther Connection 75 mile distance (which is what was required to be a Masters Series ride) was that the request came late, well after the other distances had been sanctioned. AERC rules state that new sanction requests or changes must be received by the office within 90 days. The 75 mile request was late. It was not denied because it was to be a Masters Series ride.
     
    Yes, there is a difference, but I don't think that changes the interpretation of the rule...

    Pan Am was not run in conjuction with an AERC ride and the Pan Am did not request AERC sanctioning and denied such sanctioning.

    That's where I see the difference.
