    Why did you ride Novice?  If the horse was 4, then you had to, but if not you would probably be happier in Open.  I have started one horse in the Novice division (competitive pleasure actually) because he was an off-the track arab and I figured we'd spend so much time circling that he'd  do 50 miles anyway (which is what happened).  But he came away from that ride convinced that jigging and being stupid were a lose/lose proposition.  I took a "pass" on several obstacles and annoyed the drag riders, but boy did that horse learn alot.  Based on my 2 rat study, NATRC is a really great way to start an endurance horse.  If you're an experienced endurance rider (and the horse is 5 or older), ride OPEN!!!!
